This Household Chemical Linked to Early Menopause

Women exposed to high levels of perfluorocarbons, or PFCs, may go through menopause at a younger age. PFCs are widely used in products ranging from furniture to non-stick pans to plastic food containers, although their use in the U.S. is set to be phased out by 2015.
PFCs persist in the environment, and a 2004 study detected PFCs in 98 percent of blood samples taken from a large pool of Americans. Research suggests that PFCs are endocrine disruptors that interfere with normal hormone function.
According to Reuters:
"... [A]mong women older than 42, those with relatively higher blood levels of PFCs were more likely to have gone through menopause. They also tended to have lower estrogen levels than other women."
